“Bush's Eleven Reasons for War”
To date our President has offered no fewer than eleven separate reasons for his ill-considered war on a nation that posed no threat to our nation. Each time he comes up with a new justification for his Iraq war, he weakens public support. It seems he will grab onto any straw that will seem to justify has rash decision to launch an attack on a then secular, socialistic nation made impotent by sanctions, huge war losses, intrusive inspections and outside control of air space in the north and south.
Here are eleven reasons he has offered in rough order of presentation.
l. To
remove Saddam from power
2. To respond to the 9/11 attacks
3. To go to the sources of terrorism.
4. To search for weapons of mass destruction
5. To go to the terrorists before they strike our nation.
6. To create democracy in Iraq
7. To prevent terrorist organizations from taking over Iraq
8. To show that we will not retreat from a conflict as in Lebanon and Ethiopia
9. To prevent Saddam from developing WMD
10. To honor our soldiers so far killed in this war.
11. To act on a request from God
For the last reason, a year ago when he was in the Mid-East, he seemed to indicate that God told him to attack Iraq. Later he made explicit this divine instruction when asked if he had consulted his father about his planned war. He responded that he consulted a 'Higher Father'. Our sleepy media did not seem to detect any problem with such amazing celestial guidance.
After five years in office, can you believe it; just maybe our previously co-opted, compliant media have opened their eyes to his deceptions. If true, such an awakening spells very bad news for Bush and Republicans. The bad news will be evident a year from now in November when the Democrats could capture the House. That outcome would result in momentum for impeachment from Democrats now in command, and maybe include a few Republicans.
More about impeachment and the Democratic takeover of the House in my next [letter].
