PLAYING THE BUZZ
TPJ is proud to announce that Dr. Steven Jonas, TPJ’s Contributing Author since February 27, 2004, has been invited to appear on a regular basis on BUZZ FLASH.
Dr. Jonas’ contributions to the intellectual foundations of the Democratic Party and constitutional democracy will now reach an expanded audience. Junkie Editor Michael Carmichael and myself believe that Dr. Jonas is one of the forward philosophers within the Democratic Party today. Democrats who have been desperately searching for the sweeping principles that should be the foundation of our Party would do well to digest Dr. Jonas’ call for the Democratic Party to turn to its traditional roots of embracing the concepts of traditional American constitutional Democracy.
Buzz Flash’s invitation is recognition of Dr. Jonas standing within the Democratic Party’s intellectual community and the promise of his continued contributions to the revitalization of the Democratic Party.
Dr. Jonas’ first feature on Buzz Flash is:
A Modest Proposal for Achieving a US Withdrawal from Iraq by a Date Certain
Please show your support for Dr. Jonas’ new outlet by visiting Buzz Flash and reading Dr. Jonas article.
Dr. Jonas has graciously consented to continue his relationship with TPJ and will continue to post his weekly column that appears in his section of TPJ.
Please excuse our apparent immodesty when we say to Dr. Jonas, “Well done Steve and well deserved.”

MOTHER’S DAY
FOR DARFUR –
BUY A SOLAR
COOKIT FOR A REFUGEE FAMILY
[Authored by
Cathy Lynn Moore, Ms. Junkie]
Darfurian refugees are subsisting in make shift camps in Chad. The women must leave the camps to forage for firewood in order to cook food.
Foraging exposes Dafurian women to risk of attack and rape by Janjaweed militia operating in the area. Some raped women are afraid to seek medical treatment because of the shame their culture would bestow on them.
Solar Cooking International is an American not-for-profit that has teamed up with organizations in Africa, who can not solicit money in the US, to collect donations for solar cooking kits for Darfur refugees. They have trained 21 refugee women to assemble the kits. Other women train their peers in solar cooking.
Each tent needs 2 cooking kits – one for staples and grains, one for soft foods. It is estimated that 6,000 CooKits would supply all the refugees and $30.00 covers the costs of labor, materials, training, and administrative costs.
Please donate to Solar Cooking International in honor of your mother or ask your children to donate in your honor. If $30 is more than you can afford, give what you can and we will make our goal.
For more information about Solar Cooking International, please see their website at www.solarcookers.org . You can also check them out at www.charitynavigator.org or www.InterAction.org.
I have personally contacted them about this idea. They can make it happen, but they do not have a separate webpage for donations specifically earmarked for Darfur. Therefore, you will have to send a check made payable to Solar Cooking International. Write “For Darfur CooKits-CLM” on the memo line so that the funds will be earmarked for Darfur. The address is 1919 21st St.#101, Sacramento, CA 95814.
Together we can preserve the dignity of mothers in the most desperate circumstances who are risking their lives to feed their families.
