“CIVIL WAR”
I majored in History, and every time I think I know something, our great leader [Bush] comes along and teaches me some new stuff. All hail our glorious leader!! This is from his press recent press conference:
Bush: You know, I hear people say, Well, civil war this, civil war that. The Iraqi people decided against civil war when they went to the ballot box.
Bush means like the American people decided against Civil War when they went to the ballot boxes in 1860??
DAVE
“TOO LOW”
The projections for the costs of the war are too low! I guarantee that it already has and will continue to cost more than anyone has guesstimated to date.
_____
JUNKIE: Dave, we tend to agree. The real truth will only be known if the Americans restore Democrats to majority control in one House of Congress where a responsible accounting can be had.

“ISRAEL’S BEST FRIEND”
Right now Bush is the best friend Israel has and I feel we should let him know that and hold off on the rest.

PARAPHRASING GANDHI
[by Anonymous]
Paraphrasing Gandhi, "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they get angry, and then you win". When I heard someone use this statement a couple of days ago, I thought of how the political tide is starting to turn here in the United States, with the Democrats having a real chance to take back the House.
But upon reading Mike Whitney's comments regarding the geopolitical climate and the neocons plan of attack in the areas of Lebanon and Syria, etc, that same statement seems to apply here as well.

IRAQ IS BUSH'S WATERLOO
[By Allen L. Roland*]
![]() |
Three Dead American soldiers in Iraq
Iraq is George Bush's waterloo and he is dragging all of us with him into this black hole of deceit, hubris, humiliation and heartache: -- Allen L Roland
We are not wanted in Iraq, and we are now hunted, bombed and hated by a growing legion of freedom fighters – which the Cheney/Bush administration and their house organ Fox News calls terrorists.
Over 70% of Americans feel Bush's war and occupation of Iraq is a FAILURE – And, indeed, they are correct !
Our illegal occupation of Iraq is a total failure with over 2600 Americans killed, over 20,000 wounded, over 40,000 hospitalized , approximately 100,000 innocent Iraqi's killed and wounded – and an American public becoming more skeptical of the increasing scale of human and financial costs.
Add to that the civil war that now rages throughout the country – with more than 100 Iraqis Being Killed Each Day, Says the UN ~ 3,149 Killed in June Alone.
Bush cannot emotionally deal with the FAILURE WORD and, indeed, asked Sec of State Powell to leave two years ago because he prophetically told Bush that “We are losing the war in Iraq."
Bush also cannot answer the question why our soldiers are dying in increasing numbers because the reason has nothing to do with hating Democracy – and everything to do with hating our illegal occupation.
We are dealing with massive denial here and Bush has now replaced the fictitious menace of Iraq with the equally fictitious menace of a dangerous Iran.
But let's get something straight about Iraq.
This past election in Iraq was not about Democracy in action – that election was all about reproducing the US appointed Iraq Interim Government in order to prolong the occupation and further incite sectarian and ethnic conflicts, which is obviously accelerating dramatically and with it the justification to stay.
As long as there is continued strife, there is justification for U.S. troops and the dozen military bases that are currently under construction in Iraq.
We are in Iraq to stay – so stop wishful thinking.
Only impeachment or a change in Congressional leadership can stop the Cheney led neocons now.
It's really very Orwellian – remember Eternal War for Never Accomplished Peace.
That's why we had those sham elections earlier last year -- the reproduced Interim Government would claim legitimacy and cement into place Exec Order # 13303 ( giving full oil rights to major U.S. Oil companies ) as well as legitimizing Paul Bremer's 100 privatization decrees – which he enacted before he left Iraq .
It was and still is a big sting, folks and Bush wants to avert our attention with his War on Terror histrionics or perhaps, if desperate, a war with Iran – so we won't note the daily incredible costs of his humiliating failure in Iraq.
That's why our soldiers are dying – and they are dying for a massive and blatant lie.
The Iraqi's know full well the impossibility of holding free and fair elections. Their pseudo government wrote a stage managed constitution while the people suffer under a brutal and illegal occupation – where their infrastructure is still in shambles and unemployment is well over 50%.
Iraqis have seen virtually no evidence of improvement in their homes, streets and neighborhoods and they rightfully blame US and Iraqi government corruption.
This growing army of Resistance fighters are freedom fighters to their fellow Iraqis and their numbers are increasing every day – from within, not without.
WE CANNOT CONQUER IRAQ
You want the perfect analogy to what we are doing in Iraq?
How about this letter from William Pitt to the House of Lords on November 18th, 1777.
It's entitled An English Plea For Peace With The American Colonies;
“My Lords, this ruinous and ignominious situation, where we cannot act with success, nor suffer with honour, calls upon us to remonstrate in the strongest and loudest language of truth, to rescue the ear of Majesty from the delusions which surround it. You cannot, I venture to say, you CANNOT conquer America.
What is your present situation there? We do not know the worst; but we know that in three campaigns we have done nothing and suffered much. You may swell every expense, and strain every effort, still more extravagantly; accumulate every assistance you can beg or borrow; traffic and barter with every pitiful German Prince, that sells and sends his subjects to the shambles of a foreign country: your efforts are forever vain and impotent-doubly so from this mercenary aid on which you rely; for it irritates to an incurable resentment the minds of your enemies, to overrun them with the sordid sons of rapine and of plunder, devoting them and their possessions to the rapacity of hireling cruelty! If I were an American, as I am an Englishman, while a foreign troop was landed in my country, I never would lay down my arms! - Never! Never! Never! "
And the Iraqi's will never lay down their arms for that very same reason.
Iraq is George Bush's waterloo and he is dragging all of us with him into this black hole of deceit, hubris, humiliation and heartache.

COMMENTS RE: THE IMPENDING BANKRUPTCY
[Authored by Jerry Lobdill*]
Put this
response in the "Mad as Hell, and We're Not Going to Take It any More" or "Sick
and Tired of Republican Lies" file. It would be on topic in either one.
First, anything the Federal Reserve commission is automatically suspect. After
all, these are the guardians of immense wealth and the sentinels of Wall Street.
They don't give a damn about common citizens.
Strike one!
Second, we have got to stop allowing these Republicans to conflate Social
Security with anything else--not the National Debt, not Medicare, not Medicaid,
or anything else. This is abject dishonesty, and it must stop.
Social Security is an insurance program that was designed using the best
principles of demography and actuarial science. The money paid into Social
Security was money earned through the sweat and the creativity of the human
citizens who are the intended beneficiaries of the program. It is not money
loaned by the federal government to fund a disastrous program designed by
Congress. It is a program that is actuarially sound except for the fact that the
federal government under Republican rule does not want to pay back the money it
has borrowed from the beneficiaries. And because the beneficiaries are old
Americans and not the Chinese or one of our other trading partners, Bush wants
to declare Social Security's Treasury bonds worthless while honoring those held
by foreign countries.
The Social Security program was mandated by Congress to invest all its funds in
US Treasury bonds, and what more secure and conservative financial management
decision could ever be imagined? And now Bush has declared that, to his way of
thinking, those T-bills are "just pieces of paper". Now if this actuarially
sound program with the Rock of Gibraltar US T-bills as assets is bankrupt, how
come all other insurance companies with their more risky investments are doing
better? The answer, of course, is that they don't have a crooked debtor trying
to stare them down.
Strike two!
Third, somehow, sensible, sane, responsible leaders of whatever political
leaning need to collar George Bush in private and tell him in no uncertain terms
that this heist he continues to try to pull off won't fly either with the
American people or with the leaders of the rest of the world's nations. No
nation is going to believe that their US Treasury bills are a safe investment
when Bush calls those held by any US creditor "just pieces of
paper".
And this nation has got to stop being the biggest bully in the world and stop
the criminal corruption and cronyism in Washington NOW. If this isn't done
then, yes, it's Strike 3 and we're OUT!
How much insanity are we going to take? By all rights we ought to have two
million people camped on the National Mall in D. C. this very minute demanding
an end to this insane regime and refusing to go home until the deed is done.
I will be ecstatic to be among that crowd of sane and determined citizens. How about you?

A GREAT SITE
[JUNKIE]
Minority Leader Pelosi has created a group of the 10 Democrat member of the House who are under the age of 40. While a small group, they are extremely active, with their own website. In addition, they take to the House floor once a week for an hour with a discussion of issues that will make you proud to be a Democrat.
This is the link to their website:
Check them out; they may well be the future of the Democratic Party in the House.
In addition, they have some of the best posters that you will find anywhere that convey Democratic Party messages. The posters can be downloaded and sent to your friends to make points that Democrats need to be making. Below is one example:

Great concept to develop new leaders; great website.
