GEORGE BROOKS*
“COMPASSION?”
Where’s the compassion? (June 22, “Raise To Minimum Wage Denied”)
Prior to his election in 2000, George W. Bush campaigned as a compassionate conservative, yet his administration and the Republican controlled Congress has again denied an increase in the minimum wage, stuck at $5.15 since 1997. At that paltry rate, a worker with a family of three is thousands of dollars below the poverty level. The Republicans claim that an increase would result in workers being fired or laid off. Rubbish ! Shame on them and anyone who buys into this spin. Congress did, however, vote itself yet another increase in pay.
And, this is the same administration that is trying to dismantle Social Security. What is it with the party of the rich? Do they want it all for themselves?

Junkie: Yes!
*George Brooks’ letter above first appeared in the Raleigh, North Carolina News & Observer as a letter to the editor. This type of letter is exactly what Democrats should be writing to all of their local newspapers.
JUNKIE
“MAC”
We received the following feedback from a TPJ reader:
Hello. I just cannot figure this out. I click on the addresses (e.g.--"taunted and jeered....") but cannot find anything to read. The picture of Michael Carmichael is there, the other choices are there, but no story. I’ve had this problem before, with Steven Jonas' articles, but don't know why. Anyone else having problems? Am I doing something wrong?
We suspect that the writer is using a Macintosh computer. Content on TPJ’s website cannot be viewed using Mac’s internet browser. TPJ did not deliberately design our site with that specific objective, but we use Front Page as the structure for our site.
Many Mac users report that they have installed Internet Explorer on their Macs and that avoids the problem.
We have plans of changing TPJ’s architecture in the intermediate future to make it friendlier for Macs and provide more features.
We appreciate your patience.
