                        “IMPEACHMENT”

Impeachment is out of the question, unless Bush was found copulating in public with Hilary. That is the ONLY thing that would cause his base in the House to desert him.  And even then, a few would argue there was a national security or antiterrorism angle to the whole sordid business.

Either that, or an hour before the House vote on impeachment was scheduled, he'd announce credible evidence hat Teddy Kennedy and OBL were plotting a coup, and he'd prorogue the House, declare a national emergency and nationalize the National Guard to take orders directly from Commandante Cheney.  Then he'd leave for Crawford to take personal command of the Texas Air National Guard, to protect the Lone Star State against the rumored strike by the Mexican Air Force.

                        “A LACK OF ARROGANCE”

I just returned from my Union’s annual legislative conference in D.C. and I found a much different atmosphere from last year. The Republicans are not as arrogant as in years past and are fearful of what's coming in November. As Democrats we must keep the pressure on and keep the Bush record in the forefront. We know the Bushies will try to scare the American people with a terror alert shortly before Election Day, probably the last week. Americans are fed up; they are uneasy, insecure and feel disenfranchised.

An issue we should push is that the lack of manufacturing in this country leaves us unable to ramp up production for a major war as we did in World War Two or even Vietnam. Currently we are running short on .223 caliber ammunition, the basic infantry round for our troops. They have had to curtail training shooting to insure adequate supplies at the front. We no longer manufacture the Abrams tank in the U.S.!

The members I represent in the Machinists Union are afraid for their way of life. The Bush administration has made Unions one of their top targets and is destroying us day by day. They know if the can destroy unions and the working middle class they can hold power in the elite class indefinitely.

Currently the IAM and Tobacco workers are running and organizing campaign at RJ Reynolds and meeting stiff opposition from the company and their cronies in Washington. The right to organize and collectively bargain is recognized as a basic human right by the UN and in much of the industrial world except here in the U.S. and in places like South Korea and China. We can do better as a country and a society. We MUST take back the House in November and the Senate.  I believe the future of our country is at stake, freedom and democracy or fascism and dictatorship, it's that simple!

                        “CONSPIRACY”

Editor:  De Mayo is responding to Dr. Jonas’ article "ON CONSPIRACY THEORIES” that is currently posted on TPJ.

_____

Dr. Jonas: Let's apply to THEM the legal definition of Conspiracy (18 USC s. 371, para.1): "two or more persons form an agreement either to commit an offense against or defraud the United States."

                        “GUARD CANADA”

Politics can bring out the best in wit and humor. In response to Bush’s plan to deploy the National Guard to patrol our southern border, Capt. Darren Guillaume quipped:

"I think we should put troops on the border of Canada to prevent older Americans from getting their drugs there," said Guillaume, a reservist with Charlie Company, 297th Support Battalion, a medical support National Guard unit based in San Mateo. "Why shouldn't our pharmaceutical companies have the right to gouge Americans?"

Food for thought!
