“DISMANTLING OF DEMOCRACY”
My fellow Americans,
The article immediately below is a very fine exposition of the crimes of the GWB administration. It is not an exaggeration to describe the GWB regime with the simple assertion of criminality. If we were to write a new Declaration of Independence today with King George W in place of King George III, its litany of abuses would make those in the 1776 document pale into insignificance.
We have, in five short years, seen the systematic dismantling of democracy in this nation. If we were to write the litany of abuses that have occurred since 9/11/2001 most of us would be astonished at the comparison between it and our 1776 Declaration of Independence.
As an exercise why don't you sit down and jot down your own litany-- just off the top of your head? There are few American patriots who have been witnessing the on-going demolition who won't be able to hit most of the points.
Now the question is, what are we going to do about it? GWB and the neocons are betting that we will go like lambs to the slaughter. Will you?
Look where GWB is taking us. Read Gary Hart's article, “The October Surprise", which I sent to you yesterday in the ProgressiveNews2Use mail and which I append again to this message. He asserts, reasonably, that GWB will preemptively strike Iran before the November election. He gives a prediction of the speech GWB will use on the eve of the strike. It is a replay of GWB's lies and deception delivered to us on March 19, 2003, the eve of Shock and Awe.
What are you willing to do to stop a repeat of such insanity? What if the remaining sane Americans were to call, email, and write our US Reps and Senators and tell them in no uncertain terms that if they do not go en masse to the White House and warn the President that if he makes one more belligerent speech patterned on those that led to his invasion of Iraq he will face impeachment? What if we told Congress that they, too, are responsible for that invasion, because they crafted the demise of their own relevancy by their complicity in the deceptions that led to the war. Naivete and ignorance are no excuses for their failure. It was an abdication of their sacred duty. And now it is time for those in Congress who still believe in the vision of the Founding Fathers to reverse their disastrous course and assert proper control over the Executive. What if we rose up en masse and did that?
It might be necessary to take action if Congress refused to act. According to the 1776 Declaration of Independence it is our right, our duty, to throw off such government. We have come to a point where failing to discern, failing to defend the republic that the Declaration and its aftermath-- the bloody sacrifices of our forefathers-- have secured for us, will doom this nation.
