MICHAEL CARMICHAEL’S CORNUCOPIA
_______________
Junkie Editor Michael Carmichael has identified a plethora of outstanding articles over the past week. Junkie simply cannot choose which one is the “best” to feature in TPJ. When that happens, it is time for Carmichael’s Cornucopia. Carmichael’s comments and offerings are each a gem to be cherished.

BUSH AND SHARON
By endorsing Ariel Sharon's plan George Bush has legitimized terrorism. Robert Fisk has captureD the reactions of many international observers in his thoughtful essay on Bush's latest blunder.

What better recruiting sergeant could Bin Laden have than the President of the United States?

BUSH’S POODLE
Last year, Robin Cook
resigned from the Blair government over the Iraq war. Since that time, Cook has
been proven right on numerous occasions. Today, he wrote an essay for the front
page of The Independent that encourages Tony Blair to overcome his innate fear
of rejection and to be blunt with George Bush over his wimpish acquiescence to
Ariel Sharon.
At the end of the day, there may still be a special relationship -
one between Israel and the US - with Israel in the driver's seat. However,
many are betting that Blair will return to type and simply poodle along with
Bush's latest folly - the dissolution of the middle east peace process.

BUSH’S NEWS CONFERENCE
Bush seemed to be confused, disoriented and at a loss for words throughout his press conference. Today, Sidney Blumenthal publishes his own account of Bush's latest press conference. I agree entirely with his presentation.
BIN LADEN
The timing of the latest tape from Osama Bin Laden suggests that
it is a reaction to recent events. Couched in the terms of an appeal for
negotiation and rapprochement with Europe, I interpret Bin Laden's latest public
statement as a thinly veiled threat to America and Israel.
Three weeks ago, Ariel Sharon committed the assassination of the
spiritual leader of Hamas, Sheikh Yassin, via a rocket launched from a
helicopter. In the interim, there has been an armed rebellion against the US-led
occupying forces in Iraq.
American soldiers have killed hundreds of Iraqi civilians in
recent fighting in and around Falluja.
Yesterday, George Bush capitulated to Ariel Sharon on the middle
east peace plan, relegating Bush's road map to peace to the dustbin of history.
This diplomatic setback for Bush is a dangerous development,
especially if you happen to live in either Israel or the US. This latest
development would appear to have been the proverbial straw that broke the
camel's back that has provoked Osama Bin Laden to plan further attacks on the US
and Israel.
It would seem likely that the Department of Homeland Security
would elevate the threat level to orange sometime in the relatively near future,
as security should soon be tightened in America's major urban areas, primarily,
New York City and Washington.
Al Qaida's 9-11 attack was designed to imperil two of the major
institutions of America: the financial community and the department of defense.
Therefore, it would seem logical that Bin Laden's next wave of terror would be
aimed at the same sorts of targets.
In the past few months, there has been a smattering of reports
that Bin Laden either has acquired or aspires to acquire nuclear weapons. A
relatively weak nuclear explosion in either of the two urban centers that Bin
Laden attacked on 9-11 would underline the abject futility of the Bush Doctrine
- and it would do so at a great cost to America.

I just visited that website, WhiteHouseForSale.org. I urge every reader of this webpage to visit that website and find out how the neo-cons have managed to infect our government with it's sickening lust for global domination. Many members of Congress and other elected officials, such as Haley Barbour, Dennis Hastert, Jennifer Dunn, are on the list of "Pioneers and Rangers". And other notables, like Roger Staubach (of Dallas Cowboys' fame) are also on that list of elite fundraisers that have taken control of the Government and claim they're doing it in the name of Jesus.
I don't know about you, but nowhere in my Bible I have found that Jesus is co-signing on:
- Robbing the poor to give to the Rich (in fact, Jesus' ministry was about the exact opposite; that's why the government leaders ordered His death)
- Polluting the environment, and upsetting ecological balance (the land is equipped for our very survival);
- Lying and refusal to take responsibility or have accountability (in fact, the Bible constantly admonishes us to take responsibility for our actions, and be held accountable)
- Character assassinations for those who dare to tell the truth (in the book of Proverbs, there are several scriptures that cautions us not to "bear false witness against our neighbor."{Leviticus 19:12}
Let me move on, for I get depressed reciting such examples. Now for John Kerry!
BuzzFlash warned Mr. Kerry to define himself before the Bush Cartel does it for him. It appears Mr. Kerry hasn't paid heed to BuzzFlash's warnings. I've posted letters on this very website stating that if John Kerry wanted to supplant Howard Dean as the Democratic front runner by usurping his message, he must also be willing to finish what Dr. Dean started. Apparently, neither Senator Kerry, nor his campaign staff (which features an African-American Congress member as one of his national co-chairs) have paid attention to the basic fundamentals which will lead to a win for Kerry in November. So what do we do about this dereliction of duty?
I never identify the problem without proposing an action plan.
1. We need to bombard Kerry's website with emails, his campaign offices with letters, faxes, phone calls, and tell him and his campaign to stop being nice, and view this campaign from the concept of going to battle. While some of Kerry's comments indicate that, we need to see a concerted effort from his entire campaign. We need to reinforce the urgency of Kerry developing a platform of the issues, NOW! Those who are planning to campaign for Kerry, make yourselves known, right NOW, because the summer will be too late.
2. If Kerry can't figure out his platform, we need to develop it for him, and deliver it to him, so he can get practice, do the homework and research, and articulate it in a manner that clearly serves two points: (a) defining him as a Commander-in-Chief and (b) give Democrats, Independents, Greens, and disgusted Republicans a reason to turn out in droves in November to vote for him.
3. Lobby the FEC and tell them to stop fooling around with trying to change the rules in mid year to shut up any non-profit organization that is critical of the Bush Administration by redefining them as campaign finance groups. There is a hearing for public comment in Washington, DC April 14-15, 2004 where they will be accepting public comment on the rule changes. The rule changes are a way to get around the Supreme Court's upholding McCain-Feingold. Can you imagine what this rule change does to free speech? Make yourself heard; better yet, tell Kerry to challenge the President on this issue!
4. Tell Kerry not to wait until he's nominated for the Presidency; start planning those debates with Bush NOW! And contact independent media to act as moderators, and no major network should get the privilege of broadcasting the debates because if Bush starts to look bad, they'll conveniently insert a commercial and viewers will miss the nuts and bolts of the debates; they will only show the parts that are favorable to Bush and put more media spin than they already have.
5. Donate to MoveOn, People for the American Way, BuzzFlash; any outlet that's devoted to truth, justice, and the American Way!

CATHY MOORE
(“Tell Dr. Jonas”)
________________
Cathy Moore is responding to Dr. Steven Jonas’ comments in Junkies Up(date) entitled, “On George Bush and Religion.” Jonas made an observation that Bush appoints officials based upon their Christian beliefs.
_______________
Other appointments [demonstrating Bush’s Christian criteria] include Condi Rice, who leads prayer sessions and bible study on Air Force 1 and in the White House, & John Ashcroft, who clothes naked statues.
Other examples supporting theory are George's use of the word "Crusade" in his post 9/11 speech to Congress; and that Tony Blair is also a "born again.”
I believe that the stated goal of bringing "Western Democracy" to Iraq and the region is Newspeak for "Christianity."
